We are delighted to invite you to welcome the 18 notable international artists taking part in the Thailand Biennale, Chiang Rai 2023!
On 19 November 2023, an awe-inspiring spectacle will unfold as the singular procession of contemporary art in Thailand comes to life. The diverse local cultures of Chiang Rai's eighteen districts will be brought together to orchestrate an enthralling parade featuring 18 distinct processions under the 'Chiang Rai Art Carnival 2023’. Beyond the visual beauty of the processions, the local communities of these 18 districts will all actively contribute to reflecting their unique identity. The carnival also highlights the official welcome for the artists participating in the Thailand Biennale, Chiang Rai 2023, from the people of Chiang Rai and all of Thailand.
Contemporary artists from both Thailand and abroad joining the Chiang Rai art procession include Busui Ajaw (Chiang Rai), Chata Maiwong (Chiang Rai), Chitti Kasemkitvatana (Bangkok), Ernesto Neto (Rio de Janeiro), Nguyen Trinh Thi (Hanoi), Pablo Bartholomew (New Delhi), Pangrok Sulap (Kota Kinabalu), Roongroj Paimyossak (Chiang Mai), Ryusuke Kido (Tokyo), Sanitas Pradittasnee (Bangkok), Soe Yu Nwe (Yangon), Somluk Pantiboon (Chiang Rai), Sompong Sarasap (Chiang Rai), Songdej Thipthong (Chiang Rai), Sriwan Janehuttakarnkit (Chiang Rai), Ubatsat (Chiang Mai), Wang Wen-Chih (Chiayi) and Wantanee Siripattananuntakul (Bangkok).
The Chiang Rai Art Carnival 2023 will take place on 19 November 2023, starting from 17:00 at the Chiang Rai Clock Tower, Banpha Prakan Road, Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province.
