Sompong Sarasap, an accomplished Thai artist, initially embarked on a scientific path at a rural Chiang Rai school before venturing into the realm of fine arts at Bangkok's Srinakharinwirot University. Amidst the heightened political conflicts of the Cold War era, he grappled with internal turmoil, seeking refuge in the embrace of art and poetry. These expressive mediums have steadfastly guided his artistic odyssey. Sompong stands as a pioneering artist from Chiang Rai, igniting growth within the local art scene while delving unwaveringly into the intricacies of existence. In 1988, he launched his artistic journey with a solo exhibition at the Goethe-Institut in Bangkok. Subsequent exhibitions found their stages at prestigious venues, including the National Gallery of Thailand in 2000 and 2011, the Thai Art Foundation in the Netherlands in 2000, and the Red & Gold Art Gallery in the USA in 2001. Presently, Sompong resides in Chiang Rai, where his creative spirit continues to flourish.
