Apichatpong Weerasethakul

Apichatpong Weerasethakul, a film director and artist, began his work with the feature-length documentary film "Mysterious Object at Noon" in 2000. His notable films include 'Tropical Malady (Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival 2004)', Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Palm d'Or, Cannes Film Festival 2010)', and the recent 'Memoria (Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival 2021)'. Aside from filmmaking, he conveys his interests through video installations, photography, and performances.
His works often draw inspiration from Northeastern Thailand, incorporating local narratives, forests, animism, political and personal memories. His experimental creations have garnered widespread acclaim and recognition from global audiences and critics alike.
In 2022, Apichatpong collaborated with Japanese artists to create his first augmented and virtual reality project titled Conversation with the Sun (VR), debuting at the Aichi Triennale 2022 in Nagoya, Japan.
In each presentation, up to 15 viewers could immerse themselves in the experience, exploring the space and transcending language boundaries through soundscapes and music composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
