Apichatpong Weerasethakul

Apichatpong Weerasethakul grew up in Khon Kaen, in northeast Thailand. He studied architecture before graduating in film at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1997. Recognized as one of the most original voices in contemporary cinema, his non-linear works often revolve around light, time, dreams, personal and social memories. His works have won him widespread international recognition and numerous awards, including the Cannes Palme d’Or for Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010), the Cannes Competition Jury Prize for Tropical Malady (2004), and the Cannes Un Certain Regard Prize for Blissfully Yours (2002). His latest film, Memoria, featuring Tilda Swinton, won the Cannes Competition Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival, 2021.

อภิชาติพงศ์ ยังได้เข้าร่วมแสดงผลงานในเทศกาลศิลปะนานาชาติเบียนนาเล่มากมาย อาทิ Aichi Triennale (พ.ศ. 2565), Okayama Art Summit (พ.ศ. 2565), Sharjah Biennial (ได้รับรางวัล Sharjah Biennial Prize พ.ศ. 2556), Documenta 13 (พ.ศ. 2555) และ Singapore Biennale (พ.ศ. 2551) พิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะระดับโลก Tate Museum กรุงลอนดอน ได้จัดฉายผลงานภาพยนตร์ของเขาทุกเรื่อง (พ.ศ. 2559) เขาได้รับรางวัล Prince Claus ที่เนเธอร์แลนด์ในฐานะศิลปินที่ประสบความสําเร็จในการสร้างผลงานอย่างเยี่ยมยอด (พ.ศ. 2559) ในปี พ.ศ. 2562 อภิชาติพงศ์ได้รับรางวัล Artes Mundi ซึ่งเป็นรางวัลศิลปะร่วมสมัยระดับนานาชาติที่ใหญ่ที่สุดของสหราชอาณาจักร
