Pratchaya Phinthong
Thailand
b. 1974, Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand
Lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand
Pratchaya Phinthong's art is a quiet intervention into the every day, offering a subtle yet incisive engagement with global systems of value, labour, and exchange. Phinthong's works often draw upon scientific research, economic theories, and rumours, to suggest cracks and contradictions in and between these systems, seen through the prism of interconnected global and personal histories. This approach informs his involvement in the Thai contemporary art scene, beginning with his role as gallery director of Gallery VER in the early 2000s. He held his first solo exhibition at The Art Center, Chulalongkorn University in 2004, and has since exhibited widely around the world. He has participated in numerous international biennales including 16th Sharjah Biennial (2025), where he was an awardee of the Sharjah Biennial Prize, the Busan Biennale (2024), the Singapore Biennale (2006, 2022), the 17th Istanbul Biennial (2022), Dhaka Art Summit (2020), and Documenta 13 (2012).
