Lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand
An itinerant childhood gave Rungruang Sittirerk an enduring interest in the movement and migration of people. His artistic practice is focused on the effects of capitalism and globalization, through the prism of personal tales of labour migration and urban displacement. Most of his works spring from the context of working-class and provincial cultures—movies, songs, and folk stories—mixed with his own experience as the son of migrant labourers. Rungruang was born in Chiang Mai in 1988 and received a bachelor’s degree from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and a Masters degree from Silpakorn University. His recent exhibitions include the Silpa Bhirasri Creativity Grants Exhibition (Silpakorn University Art Centre, 2024), Our Roots Run Deep (Venice, 2024), Uncountable Time (Jim Thompson Art Center, 2022), and Bangkok Art Biennale (2020), and in 2019 he was selected to participate in Early Years Project at the Bangkok Art And Cultural Center. Previously he participated in the Brand New Art Project (Bangkok University Art Gallery, 2018) and the Oita Asian Sculpture Exhibition (Asaji, Japan, 2016).
